… for an excellent meal at the village-owned pub

A fab conversation with Alan covering the death of friends, pivotal characters in our lives, children, honest businessmen – proper chaps and not proper chaps, religion & secular pastoral care, various characters of our common acquaintance, and more.

Alan indicated 12th century origins, with a lepers’ squint that has been covered. The church in nearby Tarrant Rushton also has a squint, open when I visited it some years ago. Shapwick Church was extended in the 14th. century which Alan surmises led to a repositioning of the altar, explaining why the squint would appear to be misplaced. Alan was a churchwarden here for many years & is now a regular member of the congregation.
